When the time comes to say goodbye to your favorite old sweater, it may be difficult to let go. The wonderful news is that even if you can’t wear your sweater to any further extent, you don’t have to give it up! On the other hand, think about upcycling your sweater into something else with a fun do-it-yourself project. We’ve established some accessible, creative ways to repurpose old sweaters into things you can use all winter long!
Cozy mittens. Fashioning a pair of warm winter mittens out of an old sweater is thrilling and simple! Just outline your hands in chalk around the bottom edge of a sweater, making the outline around 1/4 inch bigger than your hand. Then, cut out the pieces. Finally, turn the pieces inside out and sew them together, leaving the bottom edge open. Flip your new mittens right side out and have fun!
Decorative pillow. Nothing says comfy like a sweater-covered decorative pillow for your Leander home! To make a pillow from an old sweater, just take a pillow for reference and cut the sweater to size. At that point, turn the pieces inside out and sew them together, leaving enough room on one side to insert the pillow inside. Then stitch the opening shut and add buttons or other embellishing materials.
Fingerless gloves. Another perfect way to repurpose an old sweater is to use it to craft fingerless gloves! Both modern and functional, a pair of fingerless gloves can help you stay warm in frigid weather while allowing you to type or swipe on your phone. Start with cutting the sleeves off the sweater to any height you prefer. After that, make a hole for your thumbs. Lovely fingerless gloves you can develop in every single season!
Boot toppers. An additional styling option for upcycling an old sweater is to craft some pretty boot toppers. Boot toppers may assist in keeping your legs warm and protect your legs from rough seams or zippers. To create boot toppers, simply cut the upper sleeve off an old sweater long enough to fit your calf and then fold the extra material over the top of your boot.
Headband. A headband is another fast and delightful craft you can produce out of an old sweater. You can design your headband as thin or as wide as you desire or make more than one for more options. Begin by cutting a strip from the sweater in your chosen width, then stitch the ends together to fit your head. Instant coziness and elegance!
Pocket hand warmers. One efficient object you can take with you to stay warm in cold weather is a pocket hand warmer. To produce one out of a sweater, cut several squares from a sweater arm or band, turn inside out, and stitch up the sides. Make a little opening and fill with dried beans, lentils, or pie weights. You can also insert buckwheat and dried lavender for a delightful smell. Lastly, close the opening, heat in the microwave, and slide into a pocket for toasty warm fingers!
Smartphone case. The probabilities are that your personal tech gadgets do not like being cold any more than you do! Protect them and repurpose an old sweater at once by crafting a simple smartphone or tablet case. Trace your tech device with chalk on the sweater, then turn inside out and sew, leaving one edge open. Put a button or other ornamentation for a lovely and functional result!
Sweater wreath. Upcycled sweaters can be gorgeous and functional when you generate a fun sweater wreath for your house. Using a foam or other wreath form, cut and sew your old sweater around the form to make a lovely wreath. Place some nice-looking ribbon or other final changes, and you will have a wreath you can enjoy all season long – and beyond!
